For this project, Mr.Ted has assigned us the task of building a sound installation and putting it on the school campus. We had the option to make a Mega-Turn-Table, a visual propagating wave, an aeolian harp, a metallophone, a column percutter, Alex's metalopipeoaerophone or to come up with a new sound installation. Our group (at the beginning) chose to do an aeolian pipeophone. We had to make a bench to support the plastic tubing but the thing is that we had to make it out of concrete. Our group was pretty excited about this until Mr. Ted said that there wasn't enough funding to make our aeolian pipeophone so we switched to a copper metallophone.
We also had to make a stone instrument which taught us about how sound waves travel and also how to find nodes. We had to get a rock (nothing special) and sprinkle some chalk powder on top of it and repeatedly hit it with a wooden stick until all the powder settled on the node. We then had to find to flat rocks in which we had to balance the big rock's nodes on the smaller rocks below them.
