Project description
For our second semester project, our teachers decided to combine both of our classes and create a show! For this humanities section, Ms.Colleen assigned us to write and perform a comedy sketch at our school. We had to make sure that we included a real world problem or conflict and deliver the message in the form of comedy so people would feel comfortable talking about the issue. We wanted to help awareness in the form of comedy so that the world could hopefully be a better place!
Final sketch blurb
Prom Date Reveal
Prom Date Reveal was inspired by the entertaining and cunning SNL sketch called “Baby Shower”. Somehow, the idea of prom and baby showers was combined. Thus created the sketch “Prom Date Reveal”. The premise for our sketch consists of a boy named Chad who is announcing which of the eager crowd of girls is going to prom with him. However, throughout the story, you will notice that his mother ends up screwing everything up, much to his dismay. The elements that make our sketch comedy appealing is the absurdity of the base reality and the dynamic between characters. Our sketch could represent an absurd parody, as it’s parodying gender reveals. This is shown in various heightens such as the colored smoke bombs, the name reveal, and mom’s big mistake with the cake. Each heighten will surely introduce big laughs, as well as hilarious yet important character development.
